The Ancestors Journey Oral History Project

Tell us your story!
How did you come to live in Bergen County?

Who were the ancestors who brought you to this place?

“Faith Ringgold: Coming to Jones Road” will be the centerpiece of an extensive humanities project undertaken by BCC faculty and community organizations. Led by Professors Christine Eubank and Maureen Ellis-Davis, students will collect oral histories from the African American communities of Bergen County and surrounding area documenting their own “ancestor journeys” that brought them to northern New Jersey. These histories will then become the raw material for a work of verbatim theater where history is rendered into dialogue for the stage.

We invite Bergen County residents, particularly from the African American community, to participate in this project. Please go to follow these instructions to be taken to the portal for uploading your own Ancestor Journey with your mobile device, tablet, laptop or personal computer. You can upload video and/or audio stories. There are 5 questions to prompt your story. We look forward to sharing it!
